Now don’t get me wrong music can be a great thing but there’s some moments you’ll come to when you are better off not listening to any kind of music.
1. Trying to be productive
Now this is quite an obvious one but important nonetheless. If you want to be productive in whatever you’re doing you need to have full concentration towards it and all music is in that moment is a noise. Imagine trying to revise with a bell going off repeatedly you wouldn’t be able to think straight however we manage to justify it if the sound is pleasing to our ears. Regardless of what you’re trying to do at that point all music is a noise which is a distraction which you could do without.
2. Hitting the gym
Now when you go to the gym most likely you’ll listen to music to try and pump you up and get you ready to work out and you’re probably aware whenever you go to a gym there will already be music playing in the back. This is because listening to the music releases dopamine and this helps to mask any pain you’re feeling. You might be wondering why it is a big deal then for you to do this if it’s technically helping your performance but what I want you to think about is what happens when the music isn’t there then how will you do. Will you be able to cope with the pain that you’re feeling, probably not as well right? And that’s why it’s important if you want to better yourself then you learn to deal with the pain you’re going through.
3. When feeling upset
Recently I created a survey in which 73% of people said that when they’re upset they listen to music and as I used to do this so I completely understand why. It’s nice to listen to something that describes exactly how you’re feeling and makes you feel like you’re not alone. Now I’m not expecting you to stop listening to music when you’re upset completely I just want you to be aware of what I’m about to tell you. Just like listening to music in the gym we’re are going through pain and the music is our coping mechanism but this will make you feel better in the short term. It won’t make you feel good for long so my advice to you is try to stay in the moment and learn to deal with the pain as it will make you a much stronger person. Obviously if you feel like you need to listen to music then listen to it and take it slow everyone has different needs and unique experiences.
4. As soon as you wake up
Listening to music has a huge impact on our mood and the things that we listen to are going to overwhelm your brain when you first wake up. Your thoughts won’t fully be your thoughts, it will be a mix between what you want to think and what the music is telling you to think. This can work for you or against you for example if you want to get out of bed quickly then you can play a song that fills you with energy which will help or if you listen to something slow and relaxing you’ll or baby want to go back to bed. Either way it will have an impact on your mood. Personally I try not to listen to it at all purely because I want full responsibility for my decisions so if I wake up early I can give myself full credit for it and although it’s harder, for me it’s worth it.
These are just a few tips I can share for you to become a stronger version of yourself. Please share them as much as you can!
